Habitat Homes Going for Four Walls and a Roof during the Next Phase

La Pine’s Habitat Homes Going for Four Walls and a Roof during the Next Phase

By T. Myers

Newberry Habitat is building two homes in the Terry Park subdivision. So far, starting with the Women Build in May, they have now done the foundations and, during their firstHAbitat-house-june28-(1) big build day on June 14th began to get the flooring done. The twenty plus volunteers that are working on the project give hours of time on their Fridays and Saturdays through the rest of the project to help finish the first home and in the meantime.

Every weekend through the summer a team of individuals work alongside, the General Contractor, Steve Krebs, with the help of Dan Varcoe, the volunteer coordinator, to schedule the daily builds, organize the delivery of building materials needed for the work and then see to the support of the many workers.

Right now, they are asking skilled carpenters and novices who want to learn to get involved with the projects by calling in and committing to do a few hours of work at the building sites. There is always a need for more volunteers, so call Dan Varcoe today to find out how you can help: 541-771-9177.

In the meantime, Newberry Habitat buys materials as we go and we are always in fundraising mode. Cash donations for Newberry Habitat are greatly appreciated and you can make a donation at the main Sunriver administrative offices on Enterprise Street across from the Three Rivers School, or you can go to the La Pine ReStore on HWY 97 and make a donation at the counter. You do not have to give a cash donation either. You can make a difference when you donate gently used items for resale in the ReStore.

Nothing to donate? How about a shopping day at the local ReStore? You can find items that you need for repairing and renovating your home DIY projects and you can find one of a kind items for home décor and re-furnishing your home. Every purchase goes towards paying for the home builds each year and the ReStore sales count as one of the biggest parts of annual monies that are raised in our local community.

There is nothing as great as helping to build your community into a wonderful place to call home. Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone deserves to live in a safe and affordable home. The homeowner’s program qualifies potential owners and funds the homes as they are built, helps to make the dreams of families become realities.
