La Pine’s Newberry Habitat Working On Two Home Builds

It is an exciting time for Newberry Habitat for Humanity. They are in the middle of taking on two separate homeowner projects this year and work is underway to begin both of them at the same time. Located in Terry Court in downtown La Pine, the new homes will house two wonderful families that will make La Pine their home.

Under the careful guidance of General Contractor, Steve Krebs of Exact Construction, two lots have been cleared, prepared for the foundations and stem walls to be poured and now, with the help of local Habitat volunteers, the formation of floors, walls and a roof are being completed as we reach the mid-point of June.

It is hoped that one of the homes will be completed in totality by late fall and the second home finished by early spring. Both families are anticipating what their new lives will be like and the Newberry Habitat office and the ReStore are now doing the hard work of raising dollars to complete the work in a timely fashion.

Habitat for Humanity is an International organization that believes that everyone should be able to live in a safe and an affordable home. They designed a program that lets local people who have a dream of owning a home of their own, apply for approval and then work alongside the many Habitat volunteers, paying in sweat equity, until they finish their own home. The dozens of hard working people who are involved with every build make it possible for new homeowners to understand what it will mean to the community they become a part of! Together the volunteers, professional contractors, committee leaders and new homeowners are building their own community one house at a time.

If you can donate money or time to our local projects call the main Newberry Habitat office 541-593-5005 or call the volunteer coordinator, Dan Varcoe, at 541-771-9177 to sign up to help. If you have gently used items that you can give to the La Pine ReStore (52684 HWY 97), take them in and turn them over to the ReStore Volunteers. All of the profits from the ReStore support the homeowner’s programs in La Pine.

We need your help to make what we do at Habitat a success. For more information visit the website: Www.newberryhabitat.org or visit: Www.lapinerestore.org. In the meantime, watch us build a dream come true.
