Newberry Habitat for Humanity General Contractor, Steve Krebs, Volunteer coordinator, Dan Varcoe and other Habitat team members are putting on seminars to teach construction skills to anyone who wants to learn about building and maintaining their homes. The first class was held at the La Pine High School shop on Tuesday April 15th at 5:30-7:30 PM and the series will continue on Tuesday evenings until Krebs and his team cover the many subjects that the participants have requested to learn:
Note: During the first class, we covered tool safety and usage.
April 15: Meet at Ace Hardware at 5:05PM for a walk through and lumber grading and go to school to do a project. Register below with Dan Varcoe.
These subjects will be covered in future classes. Framing, Sheetrock and Sheetrock repair, Windows, Finish work, Paint and priming, colors, Materials, Measuring and cutting/ Mitering, Insulating, Planning , Hanging cabinets and dif. between rooms, Repair class for basic electric testing and wiring, plumbing repairs and HVAC, Shingles, Siding, Roofing, Wood floors vs. tile and linoleum and carpet.
Do you need to learn any of these skills? You can register for these free classes that are given in partnership with the Bend La Pine Schools and ACE Hardware to teach people in the local area the ability to build a home and then maintain their home. Habitat is getting ready to build homes in La Pine this year and they are looking for skilled volunteers to help them. If you attend these classes, you will not only be ready to lend a hand, but able to do your own work at home!
